Now 25 years old, Ozark Greenways will observe National Trails Day by officially linking the Wilson’s Creek and South Creek Trails at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4.  This event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Ozark Greenways will observe National Trails Day, Saturday, June 4, by celebrating the linking of two celebrated trails: Wilson’s Creek and South Creek Greenways, at 3551 S. Kauffman Rd., accessible from Farm Road 123, just northwest of the intersection of State Highway FF (West Bypass) and James River Freeway.

The celebration also marks Ozark Greenways’ 25 years of working to preserve and enhance the Ozarks’ natural heritage for public use and enjoyment. Springfield has 68 miles of greenways, and 72 miles of on-street bike routes.

“We’re proud that our efforts have created year-round recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat, positive economic impacts, health and wellness benefits, enhanced transportation options, a sense of community, and opportunities for the disabled,” says Terry Whaley, executive director of Ozark Greenways.

“Springfield’s trails and bike route network is expanding because of the efforts of engaged citizens who want to see our community become a safer place to walk and bicycle. Continued success depends on the enthusiasm and financial support of the community.”

The June 4 celebration includes:

  • 8:30-9:30 a.m. — Yoga on the Trail
  • 10-10:30 a.m. — Trailhead Dedication and Ceremony
  • 10:30-Noon — Ozark Greenways 25th Anniversary Celebration

The first 100 adults and 50 kids to arrive at the event by trail (on foot or bicycle) will receive a free t-shirt. This event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend. Event sponsors are Missouri Foundation for Health and Andy’s Frozen Custard.
